This page is maintained by Penny Teacher to explain how we handle information about teachers and the learners in their classes. We've kept it short and written in plain English on purpose.

What we collect

When you create an account we collect the information you give us — your name, email address and the school or class details you choose to add. When you use Penny we store the marks, assessments, classes and learner names you create inside the app.

We also collect basic technical information such as your browser type and the time of your last sign-in. This helps us keep your account secure and the service reliable.

Why we collect it

We use this information to run Penny for you — to save your work, sync it across your devices, and let you sign in securely. We also use anonymous, aggregated usage data to understand which parts of Penny are useful and which can be improved.

How teacher and learner data is protected

Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Only you can read the marks and learner information in your account. Penny staff cannot view individual learner data unless you specifically ask us to help with a support request.

Learner records should contain only the information you reasonably need to teach — name, class and assessment results. Please do not store sensitive personal information inside Penny.

Where your data is stored

Penny runs on trusted cloud infrastructure with industry-standard security, regular backups, and strict access controls. Data is stored in secure data centres operated by our infrastructure partners.

We don't sell your information

Penny will never sell, rent or trade personal information about you or your learners. We don't run advertising and we don't share your data with third parties for marketing.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

  • Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that's wrong.
  • Delete your account and the data inside it.
  • Withdraw consent for optional features.

Email pennyteacherapp@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Children's data

Penny is used by teachers in a professional capacity. Learner information stored in Penny is handled on behalf of the teacher and their school. If you are a parent or guardian with questions about a record, please speak to your school in the first instance — they are the data controller for classroom information.

Cookies

Penny uses a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know inside Penny before the change takes effect.
